I started my social care career as a residential childcare worker and enjoyed a number of years working in the homes directly with the children which I enjoyed immensely, I completed my NVQ level 3 in residential childcare and I worked in a number of different homes including homes that cared for children with complex needs and Learning disabilities.
I had worked my way up to a deputy position within one of our services and then through personal health circumstances I could no longer continue working directly within the children’s homes but did still want to continue to support children to have a better future and to have the same opportunities as all other children regardless of the start they had in life.
I completed my level 3 teaching and my train the trainer certificates and supported with the training of new staff, this also led me to undertaking the role of Reg 44 independent visitor for a year whilst I decided what path my career should take, I then was offered a role within the Referrals, Placements and Business development Team, I decided to take on this new challenge and this has given me the opportunity to work alongside the staff and managers that work directly with the children and to work with lots of Local Authorities to provide safe and nurturing homes for vulnerable children, I am proud that we are able to help children and families to build on positive outcomes for their futures and that we can support them to do so
